Should You Pay For Identity Theft Insurance
We all know how common identity theft has become and there are lots of ways
to protect yourself from being a victim of this crime. One of these is to purchase
identity theft insurance that is meant to replace the costs that
you incur when you have to "clean up" your identity theft mess. Just like any other insurance, identity theft
insurance covers the costs of your losses for your having paid an annual premium. Some of these policies will
cover the time that you have to take off from work to take care of the business side of things and may even
include postage, certified mail, and the cost of copying documents or obtaining certified copies of necessary
documents.
It is a matter of debate as to whether these policies are worth what you will
pay in annual premiums to protect yourself against identity theft. Some people believe that the loss that is
normally incurred and that has to be re-paid by the victim is nominal and doesn't require insurance to cover the
expense. Since credit card companies and other business will often forgive the debts that are in your name upon
proof that you weren't responsible, then the money from insurance may not be that beneficial. It is often the
losses other than financial ones the identity theft insurance covers,
that are the most difficult to deal with.
Identity theft insurance will not
cover the loss of your credit rating or the damage done to your reputation. Sometimes these thieves will use your
stolen identity when they are pulled over for traffic violations or when they commit more serious crimes. Identity
theft insurance can not get rid of the warrants that have been taken out for your arrest. If you are concerned
about identity theft and the money that you could lose, then identity theft
insurance may be something worth considering.
